It is no secret that giving days are growing in popularity across higher education institutions; they often lead to substantial increases in donor acquisition and overall fundraising. In the midst of the public phase of a comprehensive capital campaign, NC State had been exploring the idea of holding their first Day of Giving and ultimately decided that 2019 was the right time to implement this tactic because they needed to bring excitement and focus into the final years of the campaign.

Through our initial conversation with NC State we were able to gain a clear understanding of their needs, desires, and goals for day of giving. We learned about NC State’s culture, resources, and infrastructure to customize our plan for success. From an assessment to strategic planning to on-site support, State of Wow became an extension of the team for NC State Day of Giving.

| ENSURING A SUCCESSFUL EXECUTION

ASSESSMENT
Our team provided a thorough review and assessment of the program needs to ensure successful execution. Through our assessment we discussed research and insights, key performance indicators and benchmarks, and vendor recommendations. Our team helped build a case for support to gain additional resources. It was important that our team stay in constant communication with NC State to ensure we were on schedule to meet project milestones and on pace to achieve their goals.

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT AND CLIENT SERVICES
It’s all in the details! Our team created a customized plan for NC State that included specific goals, communication plans, major gift strategy, social media approaches, and gamification strategies for pre-event, event, and post event.

TRAINING
Our team worked side by side with NC State to create customized training opportunities to help their team members become the ‘expert’ in their given role.Our team worked directly with all of the key stakeholders at NC State; Annual Giving, Communications, Advancement Services, Major Gift Officers and the Leadership Team to provide 1:1 training and ensure they were set up for success moving forward.

ON-SITE SUPPORT
During NC State Day of Giving our team was on-site to help award hourly challenges, monitor all progress to stay on track and in line with goals previously set, assisted in real-time strategy for major gift amplification and vendor management.

“We pulled off what I would say is a spectacular day of giving” says Adam Compton, Interim Executive Director of Annual Giving for NC State. “I think people around campus would say it was one of the first times the whole campus rallied around a philanthropy-based mission. It completely changed annual giving at NC State, but it was also a driver for major gifts and planned gifts and conversation around philanthropy and its impact. We raised over $13.6 million as part of the day and crushed every metric we set for success. Our trend line in donors was relatively flat beforehand and we had a 17.6% increase in donor count last year, largely out of day of giving.”
